Who says you need big plans to change the game?


We just came from a weekend with multiple students and campus missionaries having to preach to different crowds about the life of Josiah.

We preached about how a radical change can take place beginning with a game changer. We connected it to campus ministry and how radical change in our society can take place if only we keep preaching the gospel to the students, the would-be if not the already movers and shakers of our world.


RADICAL CHANGE. Huge concept. Big word. Sounds impossible but we are excited (in fact, always more than excited) especially when we think about the hundreds, thousands of students more who will receive Jesus as their Lord and savior and follow Him as we keep doing campus ministry.

That’s huge! With a big God, it is possible. Fact is, it will happen.

The ones who have started the movement used to just believe for this huge possibility and three decades after, we get to witness the move of God with thousands of students.

But does it matter to God? The huge things?

I belive so. But pondering on how Josiah lived his life, it made me weigh on things. Was Josiah a “big plans” kind of man? Or was there something he did, something small, that may have led him to be a vehicle of a radical change in his world?

2 Chronicles 34:1-3
Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, and walked in the ways of his father David; and he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

For in the eighth year of this reign, while he was yet a boy, he began to seek the God of David his father. And in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places the Asherim and the carved and the metal images.

What did Josiah do first that led him to being a man who would then cause radical change?

When he was 16, while he was young, he began to seek God.

Now that’s the game changer!

Josiah had God in his life. He began to seek God. He kept seeking and obeying God. Then God used him in the world he was at.

So a simple formula from Josiah on how to bring about radical change is simply this:

YOU – Yes you! Not THEY. You! Don’t let anything limit you because God has chosen to partner with ‘you’ in bringing about change in your world.

GAME CHANGER – Something you possess or you do. Even a little thing that can impact your whole life. In Josiah’s case, his game changer was God. He had a personal relationship with God. Upon hearing God, he obeyed every step of the way. Those moments of obedience little by little contributed to an unimaginable radical change.

It all began when he started seeking God.

Do you notice something that needs change in your world today? Seek God.

How does seeking God look like to you everyday?
Personal time with God. Having a set time to worship God in songs. Reading the Bible and studying it. Journalling.

Time with fellow Christ-followers. Taking time to encourage one another to Christlikeness.

Hearing God’s word with others.

They’re little things we can do everyday. They’re not extravagant plans. They’re simple. But these little things are the start of something huge.

Most Millennials Want “Till Death Do Us Part” Vow to be Abolished

That’s an excerpt of an article that TIME released last July 2014 entitled The Beta Marriage: How Millennials Approach ‘I Do’As it turns 2 years, I want to go back to it to simply say that MARRIAGE IS A GOOD THING!

3 Realities of Marriage:

    • There are challenges in marriage. As if there’s not any challenge in this life when you don’t get married. Before I got married, one of the thoughts that pushed me to get married the soonest was this: “life will always be challenging… If I wait for these challenges to vanish, I’d lose years of being with my beloved. I’d rather go through all these challenges with her, TOGETHER.”


    • Marriage can be worked out. Four years in marriage brought me to a realization: my selfishness always gets in the way of a God-honoring marriage. As Pastor Dennis Sy wrote in his blog as to why relationships get so complicated, he says: “Now I think this is where the source of complication lies. We think everything revolves around us. In one word, we have become SELFISH.” But it can be worked out through mentors, sane friends, and most of all, a personal relationship with God to give us strong faith.

    • God instituted marriage that’s why evil will always try to break it. All the enemy wants to do is to go against God. And because God authored marriage, evil wants to get in its way. When we give up on marriage, we basically made evil victorious over us. There are, however, reasons that are justified in the law of the land and we recognize that.


All said, in the end, marriage is still a good thing. In fact, it’s a ‘God’ thing!

Oprah & Morning Habits: A Lesson on How to Start Each Day


You might be familiar with Pastor Carl Lentz of Hillsong New York. If it doesn’t ring a bell, just think of Justin Bieber. Yes, he’s one of the two pastors who have been spending time with Bieber. The other one is Pastor Judah Smith. Lentz guested in one of Oprah’s shows lately and his Instagram post of them is interesting.


I really enjoyed my time with @oprah filming for her super soul Sunday show… She is truly a special woman and a culture changer. To come from absolute poverty in Mississippi and reach the point where she became the first African American MULTI-BILLIONAIRE, takes a passion and drive that is exceptional and tireless. What struck me most about her, was her ease and kindness. She told me her key was “waking up each day and thanking Jesus for loving me and thanking Him for all he has done.” That practice, in that order, is one to be copied.. I’m grateful that she opened up her platform to talk about Jesus unapologetically and without borders. It’s literally impossible to “say all the right things” in interviews like this. I don’t even remotely try to. Virtual Reality, Pico De Loro, One-Legged Boxers, & Obeying God: A Word on Vision


Decades ago, a publicly accessible and affordable virtual reality gadget was just a vision. Today, we’re closer to such a reality of virtual reality.


In the recent election coverage, GMA News offered a 360° view of their studio while news happened. Viewers had the option to watch it on YouTube. But for someone who has a VR gadget, it would feel like being there in the newsroom itself.

A vision years ago is now a reality in formative phase.



Eight years and much pounds ago I climbed Pico De Loro. There were two summits for the group to conquer. A steep hilltop and another huge rock formation which seemed to me impossible to climb. The first summit was already an accomplishment. The second was kinda impossible.

To challenge the wavering ones like me, we made a deal that everyone must go up.

It seemed impossible but thanks to a photo of it which I saw two months prior, my vision pushed me.

A lot of us want to do stuff both easy & impossible. For both, vision is so important!



One major reality about vision:


I met Nao few years ago. His one leg has been amputated. But he was serious about fighting in a professional boxing competition. So everyday, he went to the gym to practice & exercise. He was here in the Philippines just to see that vision become more possible. Japan was strict in not allowing an amputee join such competition. He followed the rules of his boxing coach strictly. He had his eyes on the prize!

How did Nao develop his vision? Nao learned about the story of Craig Bodzianowski, a successful one-legged boxer. He fought for a world title and left a mark in boxing history as “the Gator.”



Having a hard time following the rules? Eyes on the prize. Hard time obeying God? Fix your eyes on Jesus, the very author and lone perfector of our faith. But one thing about following rule: it’s easier to follow when you have a relationship with the rule-giver.

Today, you don’t have to live as if you will never be able to consistently live right. You don’t have to live as if you will never be able to obey God consistently. Have a vision of eternity. Have a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Where you are at must never dictate what you will become! Because our God is constantly transforming us. Take it from Paul who professed God’s power in his life without a doubt!

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at works within us…” -Ephesians 3:20

God is able to work in our lives that can not be measured, something that we can’t even imagine!

Open Letter to All Filipino Moms (Specifically to 3 Mothers I Know)


Dear Mothers,

I’m sorry if the people you were with today lacked some focus between two things: spending time with you versus thinking about tomorrow’s election.

But I want you to know that you deserve to have this day exclusive to you and not share it with election blues feels. I want you to know that you are loved. That you are affirmed. That you are appreciated. That you are acknowledged and recognized. That you are honorable.

Thank you for the unconditional love, mothers! The next president of the Philippines can do so much for this society but not as much as you do as mothers. You bravely carried in your womb the would-be movers and shakers of this society. You tirelessly take care of them. You love them so much you’re willing to forget about the makeup your face needs everyday.

Thank you!!!

[Warning: cheesy messages for 3 moms I know]

Now to honor the 3 mothers in my life: my mother, my mother-in-law, and most especially my wife– the mother of our two sons.

Mama, thank you for sacrificially working as a domestic helper and having to leave your elite reputation when you needed to. You etched it in history. You were bold enough to do that just to make sure our lives would be well. Don’t ever think I don’t value you because you will always be the mother who did everything you could to make sure we’re ok. I love you, Mother!

Mama Bibs, the mother of my wife, thank you for your expertise in cooking. I owe you my fats today. Haha! Thank you for raising such a strong yet loving woman. Love you Ma!

My love, Margarita “Its”, the mother of our sons, my beautiful wife, I am amazed of your love for our kids.

Your will to sleep for short hours just to make sure our kids get what they need while yours truly is comfortably asleep… Wow! Dabest ka!!! Your absence of complaints even when our two sons get rowdy with you after a tiring day… Wow ikaw na!

Your faith to believe for great things for our kids is contagious. Your love for them is unconditional. You are doing great as their mother. I am not the expert in determining when a mother is good in mothering but I know it. I just know it… that you are doing great.

Captain America Civil War & Your Life’s Daily War: Whose Side Are You On?


My wife texted me this morning: “We’re watching Civil War movie in a while.” So she’s watching without me. But it’s fine. She’s towns away for a team building activity.

One of the movies we’ve all been waiting for is finally out! I like how this epic superhero film made a major question so popular: WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON?

As to how this question makes sense in the movie, read this synopsis:

Political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability when the actions of the Avengers lead to collateral damage. The new status quo deeply divides members of the team. Captain America (Chris Evans) believes superheroes should remain free to defend humanity without government interference. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) sharply disagrees and supports oversight. As the debate escalates into an all-out feud, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) must pick a side.

Emphasis on the last sentence: “As the debate escalates into an all-out feud, ‘they’ must pick a side.”

We’ve all come to a point of having to pick a side. From little debates among friends as to where to eat… to life-changing choices such as where to study or work. We all have to pick a side.

It’s almost May and #Eleksyon2016-related debates are heating up all the more. Whose side are you on?


More personal…

Now let’s make it more personal, more individualized. If you’re a Christ-follower, I’m sure you can relate to me– being put in situations that make us ask ourselves: whose side am I on?

Everyday, this question has always been present in our lives: WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON?

To cheat or not to cheat. To obey your parents or not. To click the sinful link or not. To sin or not to sin. To trust God or not. To wait on God or fast-track by human will. To honor God or not.

All of these choices are mere choices. They’re not the real issue that we have to resolve so we can do what will honor God. The real issue is LORDSHIP, sticking to the LORD no matter what.

And this is really the point of this blog: to uncover the reality of our daily life’s daily war summarized in a 5-word question: WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON? This particular blog entry is really about LORDSHIP.

Our thoughts, our speech, our actions… everything. Whether it honors God or not, that issue is a manifestation of our lordship issue. Everytime we say something that dishonors God, it simply reflects a confused answer to the question: whose side am I on?


So today the challenge is to be fully convinced that you and I are on the side of Jesus Christ. Whatever personal ‘war’ that is, we need to remember that JESUS IS OUR LORD and not something or someone else. So the One to honor, the side to win our hearts is Jesus Christ.

How’s your LORDSHIP today? By that I basically mean, how’s your relationship with your LORD. Oh by the way, since it’s a relationship, it means we can grow in it. Every relationship grows through time granted means to growing it. Means could be spending time reading God’s Word, praying, hanging out with friends who can spur you on to Christlikeness.

But the Bible makes it so simple…

In order for us not to fall into the enemy’s trap (because we’re on the side of Jesus Christ and not the devil’s), we need to…


To submit, probably is the hardest part but it gets easier when we remember this…

…And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. -Galatians 2:20

So whose side are we on? I think what Jesus did for us made this question easier to answer. Here’s my response as I end.

“Thank You, Jesus Christ for loving me and giving your own life! No debates took place. Instead, You gave yourself into the cross so my sins would be forgiven. By it, my daily war has a great ending for my taking– VICTORIOUS! I just have to keep remembering that I AM ON THE SIDE OF VICTORY, OF JESUS CHRIST. Thank You Jesus. You made it simpler for us to stick to Your side!”

Whether you’re for Duterte or Roxas or Poe or Santiago or Binay, one thing is common: they’ve all taken the route of utilizing social media as a major part of their campaign. And… we’ve all benefited from it.

Thanks to Facebook, Instagram, Youtube and all other forms we call– SOCIAL MEDIA, the real winner for this year’s election. Because of it, even the  #PiliPinasDebates2016 including Round 3 became more interesting.
